The Greater Austin Black Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce it has awarded three college students in the Greater Austin area with the Inaugural GABCF Collegiate Scholarship Award. Three students have been selected to receive $3,000 scholarships starting in Fall 2016.
Below are the names of the recipients of the 2016 GABCF Scholarship Award:
Jennifer Hicks is in her sophomore year at Huston-Tillotson University majoring in Business Administration. Ms. Hicks is also a single mother of four children with two of them attending college at Prairie View A&M University and Huston-Tillotson University. As an Administrative Assistant at the Department of State Health Services, Hicks is in charge of overseeing operations of the Substance Abuse Disorder Unit and maintains a part-time job at Lowe’s Home Improvement Store.
Jory Henderson is a senior at Anderson High School and is concurrently enrolled in Austin Community College dual credit program. Henderson is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Varsity Basketball Starting Point Guard and Teen President for the Peer Assistance and Leadership at Anderson High School. Jory Henderson has been accepted to Baylor University and will begin classes in fall 2016.
Rakiyah Cunningham is an Accounting major at the University of Texas at Austin and is the Executive Vice President for the Black Business Student Association. Cunningham recently represented the University of Texas in the National Diversity Case Competition at Indiana University and placed 2nd in their division against 35 other universities.
