The Greater Austin Black Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce a new creative project in honor of Austin’s Black women professionals within STEM. The Hidden Figures of Austin project will be unveiled as Austin’s photography and storytelling campaign that aims to promote achievements by Black women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
“It is with great pleasure that we continue to honor the contributions Black women have made within STEM research and development. It is a commendable endeavor in an industry that is often underrepresented by people of color and women and we look forward to celebrating those women in our community.” -Tam Hawkins, President & CEO
The Hidden Figures of Austin project was inspired by the 2016 biographical drama film Hidden Figures. It is designed to capture the individual stories of local women in STEM to help make a broader impact in the community. A notable group of women have been pre-selected to participate in this campaign. GABC will host an evening reception to unveil the online campaign release and photograph exhibit on Tuesday, April 4, 2017.
